Asia cup was initially held in 1984 in Sharjah in the United Arab Emirates, where the council was based until 1995. In 1986 India boycotted the tournament because of bad cricket relations with Sri Lanka. Later, due to the strained political relations between India and Pakistan the 1990-1991-1993 tournaments were canceled. Asian Cricket Council (ACC) declared, the tournaments will be held biennially from 2008. Asia cup has been played in a rotation basis between One Day International and Twenty 20 International format.
A big cheer for India as there are 13 editions played till the date and India is the world’s best and the most successful team in the tournament having won 6 times (5 times in ODI format and once in the T20 format).
Asia cup has some of the best stories but the biggest story of the time was the 100th century of the master blaster Sachin Tendulkar which overshadowed the Bangladesh victory in 2014 ODI.
Virat Kohli holds the title of highest scored individual of the tournament which was 183 against Pakistan in 2012. Ironically he’s not to be participating in the 2018 Asia Cup ODI, as stated by the BCCI.
Rohit Shrama would lead the Indian team for the tournament with Shikhar Dhawan as his deputy. India being the defending champions the expectations from the team are high! Now, all the eyes on the tournament where the squad is without its leader in the field, lets look forward to the clashes!
