Nestled in a stunning locale, Athang blends serenity and drama—a tranquil river embraced by lush trees, with the distant sea painting a new sunset every evening.As a homestay, Athang was designed for instant rejuvenation, offering curated experiences for all—a romantic dining pad, a kids’ pool, a hammock for book lovers, and a versatile deck for gatherings. Every space has a distinct vibe. Built with laterite stone, wood, and jute, Athang blends vernacular charm with smart design, ensuring year-round comfort.
This one was particularly challenging, yet incredibly rewarding. It was a classic brown field and retrofitting case, which means we had to integrate prefab structure with an existing one. And when you’re working on retrofits, there’s zero margin for error. Everything has to align perfectly — structurally and visually.
Now, what made it even more intense was the location as it was by the seashore, high wind speeds, heavy monsoons, and serious rust issues because of the salty air. So we had to design everything to be extremely sturdy — following Indian structural codes, of course — and we paid special attention to surface preparation. Since the area falls under a C-4 corrosion zone, we used a combination of Epoxy and PU paint systems, and applied high-pressure laminates on the columns to fit them well with the acoustics
Oh, and did I mention we pulled this off during the monsoon? Ninety days of nonstop rain — and we still managed to execute the entire project in that window. It was wild… but that’s what we do best at Mulberry — we deliver, rain or shine.”
